About 1 Nelson Road & 21 King William Walk
The corner unit at 1 Nelson Road forms part of a terrace designed by Joseph Kay in 1839 while 20 and 21 King William Walk townhouses were built in the 1930s as part of a separate development. Both properties are Grade II Listed and the proposal for the refurbishment and extension of these buildings has been led by a sensitivity to their historic character and the wider context of the West Greenwich Conservation Area and the Maritime Greenwich World Heritage Site.
The ground and basement floors of 1 Nelson Road (previously combined with 20 King William Walk) have been refurbished and extended at the rear to create a modern high quality restaurant and to restore an active frontage in this prominent cornerstone to the gateway to Greenwich from the A2. The outstanding Sticks N Sushi restaurant has moved in and opened on 31st January 2015. The upper storeys have been sensitively reconfigured to provide two modern residential apartments. The top one has a unique view of London’s Cutty Sark and Canary Wharf.
21 King William Walk has been restored as a single townhouse with particular attention to the repair and restoration of the original historic features. A two storey side extension to include all the bathrooms and services was added to the building which enabled the former, historic layouts to be restored.
