About Dulwich College

Completed in October 2018, Barr Gazetas refurbished the main teaching spaces at Dulwich College, the Grade II* listed Charles Barry Buildings.

In 2019, Dulwich College will celebrate its 400th anniversary. In the 1870s the College was re-established on its 70-acre greenfield site and since then has undergone many alterations.

Our brief was to provide the best teaching and learning spaces in a forward-thinking, pupil-focussed environment. Our proposals restored the internal heritage fabric whilst enhancing the college’s commitment to teaching and pastoral care, further enabling an environment in which pupils, colleagues and the wider community can thrive and learn.

We provided 40 refurbished classrooms, 10 associated teaching spaces and restored corridors and stairwells. Each of the spaces has been carefully laid out to allow for modern teaching styles whilst respecting the buildings historic fabric. New heating, electrical and IT services were carefully threaded through the building during each phase of works to keep any disruption to the College down to a minimum.
