Peninsula SquarePeninsula Square

Greenwich

Client: Meridian Delta Limited
Location: Greenwich Peninsula, London
Category: Public Realm
Completed: 2007

At the time of completion, Peninsula Square was the first new public square in London for 100 years. The contemporary public space is equivalent in size to Leicester Square and attracts people living and working in Greenwich Peninsula, as well as visitors to the O2 entertainment district.

“The rich history of Greenwich has been captured in 24 poems by award-winning poet Mick Delap and etched into the granite paving of the square.”

Jon Eaglesham, Managing Director, Barr Gazetas

Our vibrant design reflects the constant buzz of activity around the square, lined with cafes, restaurants, shops and venues. A tall stainless steel spire creates a visual anchor, a 3-storey performance wall is lit with 6,000 colour-changing LEDs, bubbling geysers shoot plumes of water 10 metres high, a living green wall connects the busy square and calm riverfront, and a sweeping canopy links the underground station to the O2.
