“Refurbishing a historic office building in one of London’s prime locations is thrilling yet challenging. Ensuring every detail aligns with the Art Deco-inspired design requires precision. I am very proud of the quality of the spaces we’ve created.”
Urko Gorostizaga, Senior Architect, Barr Gazetas
The project brief included the refurbishment of the reception area, Cat A office accommodation and WC’s across seven floors, new cycle and changing facilities at lower ground level, and communal and private roof terraces. Retail / restaurant accommodation at lower ground, ground and first floors has also been provided.
The design is inspired by the building’s Arts and Crafts heritage, drawing on the work of the era’s pioneers such as CFA Voysey. For instance, the reception area re-imagines this heritage through a contemporary palette of green ceramic and terrazzo. Existing materials have been restored where possible, with best-in-class new materials being incorporated where required. Connecting old and new seamlessly through design.
The new roof terrace offers breathtaking views over the canopy of Berkeley Square and beyond to Mayfair and the City. The materials have been selected to sit quietly in the Conservation Area surrounding the site, and enhance the external appearance of the building from street level.
