Bishopsgate

Client: Schroders
Location: Bishopsgate, London
Category: Workplace
Completed: 2015

With details inspired by the building’s location next to The City's largest electrical substation, our refurbishment has bought a vibrant feel to a tired 1980s building.

Barr Gazetas were appointed by Schroders to carry out a partial refurbishment of the common parts within a six-storey office building at 12 Appold Street, EC2. This involved updating the office entrance, enlarging and refurbishing the ground floor reception lobby, improving shower facilities in the basement and providing new superloo facilities for the ground and fifth floor. A full CAT A office fit out was also carried out on the fifth floor as part of the scheme.

The brief was to create an office entrance that would appeal to both the TMT and city occupier sectors. As the building is adjacent to a large substation and the theme of electricity has been brought into the building. Reclaimed electrical isolators form a key feature within the reception lobby. They are displayed onto an orange accent wall with back-lighting. A Crittall style glazed partition forms the backdrop for the curvaceous zinc clad reception desk, which provides a contrast to the regular forms of the glazing framework.

Services have been exposed in a series of silver anodised ductwork runs. Other services have been concealed within a localised grey mesh suspended ceiling by the lift core. The WC facilities include natural oak finished cistern panels with white metro tiled walls and new satin stainless steel fixtures.
